Review: Wow. This was a surprise.
Mountain Kenya looks for all the world like a standard CTC African tea. The tiny leaf “balls” are uniform and chocolate brown, and don’t give up much aroma. I infused it with boiling water, figuring that it would be passable, but not particularly tasty.
(I was wrong.)
(This stuff is downright delicious.)
Now this isn’t by any means a complex tea: The flavor of this deep red, medium bodied tea is dominated by of tobacco and orange. It is fairly brisk, though it doesn’t need milk, with a slight bitterness at the finish. But it tastes wonderfully fresh, and makes a delightfully crisp, robust, and snappy iced tea as well (the orange notes really make themselves known when this tea is chilled).
This is a versatile, reasonably priced, “workaday” tea that will become a permanent fixture in my tea cupboard.

I’ve heard good things about Mark T. Wendell; I’d suspect that they would be really cautious about stocking CTC teas…only carrying them if there was some compelling reason to do so! Your review seems to validate this impression!
