Review: Sometimes, simple is good.
Take Mandarin Rooibos from Mark T. Wendell, for example. It is a pretty basic tisane: High quality rooibos blended with an orange flavoring.
(But it sure is tasty.)
The rooibos is substantial enough to make its presence known in this blend, while the orange flavor is decidedly refined. Not sweet, not cloying, but slightly tart and crisp. As a hot drink, Mandarin Rooibos is rich and soothing. But it really shines as an iced tea. It infuses up to a lovely orange/gold color, and the chill really brings out the orange notes. It is wonderfully refreshing to drink on its own, and goes great with food. Plus, because it is caffeine free, you can drink it any time of the day or night.
Strongly recommended.
Preparation Tip: If you are going to make this as an iced tea, don’t be afraid to let the leaves steep a good long time. Rooibos doesn’t get bitter, and you want the tisane strong as it is going to be diluted by ice.
