Review: Chocolate tea? Oh yeah! Chocolate mint tea? Even better!
Ok, actually, this isn’t really a chocolate tea: It is actually a rooibos tisane, aka “herbal tea”. But never mind that, because this stuff is really, really good. Plus, since rooibos is naturally caffeine-free, it has even less caffeine than a decaf tea and is perfect for drinking before bedtime!
(Read about the health benefits of rooibos here.)
The dry leaf smells heavenly: Sweet and rich with chocolate and crisp mint. It brews up to both a light-medium body with a lovely red-amber color. Its infused nose is surprisingly more chocolaty than minty.
This is a delicious tisane. The mint does dominate, which is typical of mint, but the chocolate is likewise strong. The rooibos provides a nice honeylike-sweetness. You could add sweetener, but it doesn’t really need it.
(Now that I think about it, his tisane reminds me of honey chocolate mint patties. Ever tried? You should!)
Incidentally, I tried this with a bit of cream, and while it was very nice, I think that Teas Etc Chocolate Mint is best completely on its own. It is a great after dinner drink (Teas Etc calls it “dessert in a cup”), and makes a great snack. Try it.
(Look Ma! No Calories!)
Brewing tips: Rooibos likes boiling water, so be sure that you use it when preparing this tisane. Also, give this a good long steep: The chocolate and honey notes need that extra time to develop. 8-10 minutes should do it.
