Review: While I am all for innovations in the tea industry, the fact is that the best teas are made in accordance with local customs. South Asian green, white, and oolong teas, for example, typically don’t match up to their Chinese counterparts. They aren’t necessarily bad but they usually aren’t that interesting, either.
Kusmi Green Darjeeling is an exception to this principle. I don’t think it matches up to the best Chinese green teas, but I do think it is plenty interesting, and definitely worth a taste.
The dry leaf nose is intriguing: Something akin to honeysuckle and new grass. The tea infuses to a lovely light green, and the honeysuckle (sweet/floral) notes dominate the palate, with the herbal/green/grassiness showing up in the finish. The body of this tea is light-medium (1 % milk?), and it requires a bit of attention for maximum appreciation. I’d advise not drinking this tea with food.
Incidentally, I’ve had this tea cold and found it delicious. Again, it is too delicate to drink with food, so have it on its own as a delightful thirst-quencher.
