Name: Darjeeling Tea
Brand: Twinings
Type: Black tea
Form: Paper bagged tea
Review: I have no problem with drinking “paper bag teas”: This blog is full of positive reviews of various inexpensive, grocery-store teas that come in little paper bags. While I clearly prefer loose leaf tea, bagged teas have their place. They are convenient, inexpensive, accessible, and often taste good.
Sadly, this is not one of those bagged teas.
It is inexpensive enough: I bought it for a few dollars over at World Market. It is also convenient: Twinings individually wraps its teabags which makes them quite portable. The trouble is, this tea just doesn’t taste good.
The dry leaf doesn’t have much of a scent (which is fine, many good teas don’t). The tea infuses to a very pretty copper, with a robust, fruity nose. There is some characteristic Darjeeling muscatel frutiness in this light-bodied tea, but there is also a sharpness to this tea that makes it one bitter and disagreeable brew.
Darjeeling lovers beware.

That’s too bad about this offering. Have you tasted their Irish Breakfast tea?
