Kusmi Tea’s “Troika” (review)

by Lainie P on January 21, 2010

Name: Troika

Brand: Kusmi Tea

Type: Black tea, flavored

Form: Muslin tea bags (loose leaf available)

Cost: $12.95 for 20 tea bags

Review: Another lovely tea from Kusmi. This is essentially an extra citrus-y Earl Grey that blends bergamot and other orange flavors with a Chinese/Ceylon/Indian black tea blend. The result is another smooth, seamless, subtle tea from Kusmi.

The tea infuses to a medium amber-gold, with a subtle nose dominated by orange. The taste is pure citrus: There aren’t any other spices to “sweeten” the cup, so the tea is somewhat tart with a slightly bitter backnote. There is also a hint of maltiness, presumably from the Indian tea used in the blend, making this a very rich tea indeed.

Since this tea is bold with citrus flavors, do you think it’d serve well iced?

I’d think so, yes. Though it also has a malty note that may not ice well.
