Pearl Fine Teas’ 3pm Tea (review)

by admin on December 14, 2009

Name: 3pm Tea

Brand: Pearl Fine Teas

Type: Rooibos/black tea blend

Form: Loose leaf

Review: This tea was blended to help folks overcome the “3pm munchies” at the office: Instead of buying a candy bar, try sipping a tea that smells (and tastes) like one instead!

Pearl Fine Teas blended rooibos, black tea, vanilla, chocolate, and coconut to create 3PM Tea. The result is a luscious, sweet brew dominated by coconut, with the other sweet/warm flavors meshing nicely, and the black tea providing structure.  This is a warm and comforting tea, and could make a nice alternative to chai.

(Incidentally, there appears to be more rooibos than black tea in this blend, so you won’t get a full shot of caffeine when drinking this tea.)

Preparation Tips: Rooibos is good for long steeps, but the black tea will become bitter and disagreeable if left to stand too long. I found that using 2 teaspoons of dry leaf per 8 oz of boiling water, and then a six-minute infusion produced a sweet, rich, almost creamy tea with no bitterness.
