Mighty Leaf’s Ginger Twist (review)

by Lainie P on December 29, 2009

Name: Ginger Twist

Brand:
Mighty Leaf Tea

Type: Tisane

Form: Silken teabag (loose leaf available)

Review: Since I recently gave a thumbs-up to Lipton’s Ginger Twist, I thought I’d sample Mighty Leaf’s ginger tisane offering. Sadly, and surprisingly, Mighty Leaf’s Ginger Twist just doesn’t measure up.

This tisane is a blend of ginger, mint, lemongrass, “tropical fruits”, licorice and ginseng. The trouble is that it just doesn’t have much substance: The mouthfeel is decidedly “thin” (i.e. watery), and I don’t taste much besides mint with some lemongrass nipping at its heels.  I expected some gingery heat and spice, but couldn’t detect it behind all that cool mint.

(Never thought I’d say this, but I’m going to stick with Lipton for my ginger blends in the future!)

I’m not a lipton fan at all, considering their brewing and the leafs they choice, just not my “cup of tea” ahhahah. I like mighty leaf, but have not tried the ginger twist. Maybe I will, just to see and add another opinion on the board.

But Lipton is like the Mcdonalds of ground beef

Nice review, Lainie. I haven’t tried the Mighty Leaf or the Lipton’s, but Stash makes a really good ginger herbal. I think it’s called lemon ginger. I give it to friends and family with chest congestion and other respiratory illnesses, but it’s good for just drinking, too. You taste may vary, of course.
I was sorry to read the Might Leaf fell short. I am looking for some teas of theirs to try since they seem to be such a strong presence on the Internet.
Very well written, as always. I actually learned how to write tea reviews for my site by reading how you and a few others like Elizabeth Urbach, the San Jose Tea Examiner, write your reviews and what you include in them. I had written about tea before, but not reviews.
