Bamboo Charcoal

There has been a bit of buzz about bamboo charcoal in the tea community recently, and I recently had a chance to try this extraordinary substance. My friend and fellow Chicago tea-blogger Tony Gebley (From World of Tea and Tea Roundtable) was good enough to host the second Chicago tea-blogger’s confab, and he gave me a piece to take home.

I added it to my water pitcher and was pleasantly surprised at how “sweet” it made my water taste. Water in my neighborhood is plenty over-treated and funky, so it has been a real joy to work with this water. Even better: Bamboo charcoal isn’t encased in a plastic cartridge that ends up in a landfill.

Bamboo charcoal is available through several online sources. I strongly suggest that serious tea drinkers (and even folks who just like good water) try it.
