Kusmi Decaffeinated Earl Grey (review)

by admin on November 25, 2009

Name: Kusmi Decaffeinated Earl Grey with Citrus Fruit

Brand: Kusmi Tea

Type: Black tea, decaffeinated, flavored

Form: Muslin tea bags, individually wrapped. Loose leaf available.

Cost: $12.95 for box of 20 muslin teabags, a pack of two 4.4 oz tins of tea is available from Amazon.com for $23.81. Quantity discounts available.

Review: I am not a fan of decaffeinated tea: Tea just doesn’t survive the decaffeinating process well. But since I’ve enjoyed Kusmi’s other teas so much, I figured it was worth giving this one a chance.

Guess what? I liked it! It sure beats out some of the more insipid “regular” Earl Greys that I have tried, and it stands as probably the best decaf tea I’ve tried.

The bergamot is strong, so you need to be a serious Earl Grey lover to enjoy this brew, but not overwhelming (the nose on the dry leaf is a bit much, but it settles down once infused). The liquor is a very pretty medium amber. The tea is light-to-medium bodied, and is most refreshing.

{As always, I must caution that “decaffeinated” tea still contains some caffeine, so if you have been told to avoid caffeine, ask your doctor before drinking any decaffeinated beverage.)
