Brand: Zhena’s Gypsy Tea

Type: Green tea, flavored

Form: Silken pyramid tea bags

Review: Oh yum!

Tea purists will sneer, but this blueberry/vanilla/green tea blend really did knock my socks off. When I opened the can, I was struck by the most luscious blueberry/vanilla scent: It reminded me of vanilla icing with a blueberry backnote. Scrumptious.

I then prepared the tea (check out the tips below, as I don’t recommend following the instructions on the canister), which resulted in an olive-green brew with a lovely nose of a hot blueberry sweet roll.

And guess what? It tasted like a hot blueberry danish/sweet roll! The green tea provided a lovely base and some structure to the vanilla and blueberry, both of which were balanced and clearly well-chosen for the tea. There was nothing fake or overdone about this tea’s flavors.

This tea makes a delicious  iced tea: Experiment with the amount of tea used, as I found that it was strong enough so that one teabag per 8 ounces of water worked well.

Tips: The instructions that come with this tea are not as careful as they ought to be. Don’t poor boiling water on green tea, that will ruin it. Instead, bring the water temperature down to 185F and let it steep for about 2 or 2.5 minutes.

Availablity: The Biodynamic teas might be a bit difficult to find, but they are available for mail order on Zhena’s website. Whole Foods Markets also carry them.

This tea sounds scrumptious and I like that it’s biodynamic.

I’m a bit of a purist, but this one sounds wonderful…
