Name: Iced Green Tea (aka
Zen Green Iced Tea)
Brand: Tazo
Type: Green tea, flavored
Form: Paper bagged tea (large size for iced tea)
Review: First of all, I do confess that I like these nifty iced tea “packets”…extra-large teabags filled with enough tea to make 64 ounces of refreshing iced tea. I adore iced tea, and it is hard to beat the convenience of these bags.
Secondly, I want to clear up what might be some confusion regarding Tazo’s Iced Green Tea. “Iced Green Tea” is the same thing as Tazo’s Zen Green Tea, but has been packaged as an iced tea. Tazo’s Iced Green Tea is a blend of green tea with lemon verbena, lemongrass, and spearmint.
The nose of the dry leaf (or rather, the dry leaf teabag) is fresh and minty with a hint of lemon: I am pleased that Tazo decided to use lemongrass and lemon verbena to give the tea its lemon kick: They are both subtle and “fresh” tasting at the same time (far more than, say, lemon rind or added lemon juice).
The tea was easy to prepare: Because I did not have a tempered glass pitcher (see “tip” below), I prepared the tea in a large pot. I placed the tea bag in the pot, added a quart of hot water, allowed the tea to steep for three minutes, and then removed the teabag. After adding a quart of cold water, I carefully poured the tea into a pitcher to chill.
The tea itself is quite tasty and refreshing: The mint dominates, as it usually does, but the green notes and tang of the herbs offers a nice contrast. As with most flavored green teas, the tea’s flavor is somewhat overwhelmed by the other ingredients, though the tea does offer the brew some nice body and substance.
Incidentally, the tea is very smooth, and the mint has its own natural sweetness. I would advise against adding sweetener to this tea.
Tips: The instructions for this tea suggest preparing it by adding the bag to a pitcher and pouring hot water the bag, and allowing it to steep. Make sure that your pitcher is heat resistant/tempered, or else you risk possible injury (and a big mess) if a pitcher shatters or melts.

I have this affinity for Tazo teas, being that the company is from my neck of the woods (Oregon). Thanks for the review!

I do love a good iced tea…
I love lemongrass in iced tea! They pair well together.
Cold brewing !!! Put a large teabag of Tazo Iced Green into a pitcher of cold water. Let it set overnight. Voila – iced tea. It’s great !
(I don’t know whether this works for black tea. )
Cold brewing, follow up. I forgot to add – put the pitcher in the refrigerator overnight.
