I am having fun cleaning out my cabinets and using various bagged teas to make iced tea. It’s a great way to create refreshing, flavored iced teas at a fraction of the cost of bottled iced teas.
I have been asked why I am using bagged teas in these recipes (instead of loose leaf teas). The main reason is that I really need to reduce the size of my tea collection, and the bagged teas take up a lot of space. By using them in these iced tea experiments, they don’t go to waste.
(Also, I realize that many people prefer the convenience of teabags: Especially in the summer when they need large quantities of cold drinks!)
Equipment Needed:
Ingredients:
- 5 bags of Eden Twig Tea
(Yes, this is the same tea that I reviewed earlier this year and hated. But it actually works in this recipe.)
- 3 bags of Lipton Spiced Chai-Flavored Black Tea
- 2 bags of Lipton Flavored Black Tea, French Vanilla
- 8 cups of cold, filtered water
Put all the teabags in a pitcher or sun tea jar and pour in the water. Refrigerate overnight and remove the teabags from the pitcher or jar.
This is a fairly intense brew, with the roasted notes of the Eden Twig Tea adding a nice bit of “oomph” to the chai and vanilla flavors. Feel free to play around with water amounts: It was pretty strong at 8 cups of water, 10 cups of water might suit some better.
(Also, the vanilla is pretty heavy in this tea, so again, consider swapping out one of the vanilla teabags for another Twig tea or chai.)
Try this prepared with a bit of sweetener (agave nectar worked well for me) if you like. I added a touch of unsweetened almond milk
as well, and it made a great “chai latte”-like drink!
