Review: Don’t let the name confuse you. This organic green tea from Mighty Leaf is not scented or flavored with “yellow flowers”. Instead, it is an unflavored, unscented green tea with an interesting scent and flavor of its own.
The dry leaf is most interesting in appearance: Rolled into thin, somewhat long “needles”, it varies in color from dark jade to deep olive, along with a few silvery tips. It’s nose is quite sweet, somewhat spicy, and while it does possess floral notes, it is hard to pinpoint the scent of one flower. Imagine instead the scent of a field of wildflowers, with all the fragrances meshed together.
The tea infuses to a very, very pale green, with a nose that recalls the sweetness of steamed baby peas and carrots. Its light body carries its delicate sweetness well: The floral, sweet, and spice notes remain, along with the baby veggie notes. A very slight bitterness provides structure, and keeps the tea from becoming insipid.
Very tasty indeed.
Tips: Make with cool water (i.e. 175F or so) and don’t let steep for more than a minute. Too delicate to pair with food. Drink this tea on its own.
