A little while ago, I did a review of Rishi Tea’s Masala Chai Concentrate. At the time, I found the concentrate to be both tasty and convenient, though I noted that it wasn’t quite as spicy and intense as I normally like my chai to be.
Tonight I was in the mood for chai, and decided to mix the concentrate with unsweetened Almond Breeze(an almond milk mentioned in my series on non-dairy milks in tea). I poured equal parts concentrate and Almond Breeze into a pot, mixed thoroughly, and then brought the whole shebang to a simmer.
The result was remarkable: The Almond Breeze enhanced the flavor of the chai, the slightly bitter almond notes of the “milk” meshing well with the spices of the masala chai and making them more intense. Even better, unsweetened Almond Breeze only has 60 calorie per cup, which has 30 fewer calories than in even skim milk.
