Mighty Leaf's Marakkesh Mint (review)

by Lainie P on June 16, 2009

Mighty Leaf Marakkesh Mint
Name: Marakkesh Mint

Brand:
Mighty Leaf Tea

Type: Green tea, flavored

Form: Bagged tea, silken pouches (loose leaf available)

Cost: 4 ounces loose leaf is $9.95

Review: This is Mighty Leaf’s version of  Moroccan mint tea: A blend of gunpowder green tea and peppermint. This intense brew is traditionally poured from a distance so as to create a head of foam on the cups of tea.

Mint is normally overpowering to tea, so the use of gunpowder green tea, which has a fairly intense flavor, makes a lot of sense. The peppermint dominates, of course, but the gunpowder gives the tea structure and body that would not be present if this was just a mint tisane (with no true tea added).

Don’t be put off by the color of this tea, which is admittedly “muddy”. The flavors are bright and clear. Great “pick me up” in the morning, too!

Tips: Try this iced. It is spectacularly refreshing.
