Name: African Nectar
Type: Rooibos, tisane
Form: Silken biodegradable pouches/bags
Cost: Depends on source, though typically around $10 for either 15 pouches or four ounces of tea.
Review: My main complaint about rooibos is that is boring: It just doesn’t have much depth. Fortunately, the blenders at Mighty Leaf understand this, and apparently decided to do something about it.
African Nectar is technically a flavored rooibos: The blend includes hibiscus flowers, marigold flowers, and flavors of vanilla and mango. None of these flavors, however, dominates the tisane, or is even all that obvious. Instead, they enhance the rooibos, giving it both depth and character.
This tisane infuses to a gorgeous coppery-gold, and has a deep, hot-honey nose. I tried it with a cream puff for dessert, and it was delicious, though it also works well as a “sipping” tisane. Tasty on ice, as well.
Tips: Rooibos doesn’t get bitter, so go ahead and let this steep for awhile. It deepens the flavor.

It’s funny how much I like Rooibos, even though it may be boring! I think for me it has replaced my former “staple” of plain old robust “English” ( probably not English at all – probly a blend from India or China ) bog standard tea! It does not hurt my tummy like some caffeinated teas. It quenches my thirst and is “comforting”. Hmmm. ..the psychology of tea!
I agree that African Nectar is a little different and is a blend and I like it for a change! Give me that old TICK TOCK Rooibos from England though! They sell it at Tescos, people!
