Teatulia Tulsi Infusion (review)

by Lainie P on May 15, 2009

tulsiName: Tulsi Infusion

Brand: Teatulia

Type: Black tea, flavored

Form: Leaf tea in biodegradable pyramid bags

Cost: $5.00 for a 6 bag sampler size, quantity discounts available

Review: Like the other Teatulia teas that I have tried, this tea is impeccably fresh: While tulsi (aka Holy Basil) is a strongly flavored herb, the flavor of robust black tea is definitely present in this beautifuly, coppery brew. The tulsi flavor is likewise interesting: Warm and spicy. The tea has a very slight bitterness to it, which is not unpleasant.

Incidentally, this tea is really good on ice. Iced Tulsi Infusion lacks the bitter notes of the hot version, and the warm spice imparts a richness to the refreshing black tea. Highly recommended.

Recommendation: While I adore this tea, particularly when it is iced, some folks find the Tulsi / Holy Basil flavor not to their liking. Still, I suggest that folks at least give it a chance: It is super refreshing!

I reviewed Teatulia’s Tulsi infusion on Gongfu Girl a while back and I really enjoyed it. Have you tried infusions of just Tulsi by itself, like this one? It’s quite interesting stuff, very soothing.

I haven’t tried it on its own as a tisane, but I have tried herbal supplements that contained Tulsi/Holy Basil and really liked them. Will try the tisane next!

Thanks for the tip!

Hi Lainie,
Thanks for the post about this exotic tea :) I must step out of my comfort zone and go beyond camomile and Earl Gray :)

Take care,
