Name: Imperial MeiZhan Light Roast
Brand: Seven Cups
Type: Rock oolong
Form: Loose leaf
Review: I love Seven Cups’ rock oolongs and this one is no exception. Its longish twisted leaves range from dark to milk chocolate brown. In keeping with the tea’s color, the nose is dominated by cocoa notes.
Once infused to a rather stunning medium-gold liquor, the nose takes on notes of salt, roasted grain (corn?) and is slightly pungent.
In the first infusions, the grain notes dominate. This, combined with a slight sweetness, causes this tea to bear more than a passing resemblance to whiskey, without, of course, any dulling effects! The tea is lightly astringent and has a medium body which falls somewhere between 1% and 2% milk.
After the fourth infusion or so, floral notes begin to emerge, which is not at all unpleasant. You can make this tea last a long, long time.
Recommendation: This oolong ought to have pretty broad appeal: Its slight sweetness and grain notes make it a tasty introduction to fine oolongs. Enjoy.
