Review: The somewhat small, dark, dry leaves possess a surprisingly pungent nose: Woody, earthy, perhaps a hint of cedar, with a backnote of fruit. Once infused to lovely medium amber (decidedly yellowish), the pungent nose continues, this time with a bit of tobacco.
The pungency dissipates on the palate: The tea smooths out nicely, though tobacco and some light fruit notes remain. This is an excellent tea for sipping on its own, but its slight astringency makes it great for consumption with fatty/greasy foods.
(Case in point: I washed down a peanut-butter-and-bacon-on-toast with this tea, much to the delight of my tastebuds).
Recommendation: Flavorful, earthy, unusual black tea, if you are a black tea lover looking to expand your horizons, give this one a try. I’d forgo milk and sugar in this tea: It is too interesting to mess with.
