Name: Organic Emerald Green Pearls
Type: Green tea
Form: Loose Leaf
Cost: $16.95 for 4 ounces
Review: Don’t let the word “pearls” fool you: This jade-green tea’s long, needly leaves don’t look like any pearls that I’ve seen. But don’t this keep you from breathing in the sweet, intense, floral (violet, perhaps?) scent of this tea.
The tea infuses to a pale, pale green with a nose that continues to be both sweet and floral. The taste is something else again: Not quite as sweet as one might expect, but still intense, with no detectable vegetality: This is a green tea lover’s green tea.
The second infusion brings out more of the tea’s “green-ness”, as well as a slightly deeper color and a bit of astringency. A very refreshing tea, though a bit too complex and delicate to drink iced.
Recommendation: I greatly enjoyed this lively, floral green tea, and I would think that most green tea lovers would feel the same about it. I would not recommend it to green tea newbies or those on the fence about green tea, however: It’s floral character is pronounced and the tea is very distinctly “green”.
Do not eat food with this tea. It is too subtle and delicate for that.
