Tea Aisles at the Supermarket?

Anyone who doubts the popularity of tea needs to consider this: My local Whole Foods Market has added six feet of shelf space to their tea department in the past year! Whole Foods Market, and other “generalist” retailers are starting to realize that the market for tea is growing. . . with no end in sight!

I just posted a profile on my Whole Foods Market tea section at Examiner.com, but I want to hear from the rest of you: Are you finding that your local supermarkets, health food stores, and other retailers that are not “tea specific” are increasing their tea offerings?

I live in a small community with a few of the standard corporate super-markets (Safeway, Lucky’s, etc). They have pretty small tea sections with nothing very exciting…. but our local co-op market has about a 10 foot section for just teas. It’s quite nice. We do have a local Coffee, Tea & Spice store that seems to do alright.

I’m noticing that the natural food sellers are dedicating more space to tea as well. I’ll be really happy when they start carrying a larger whole leaf tea selection, but I guess that’s a little trickier. One place does and I’m so glad I found it!!

There is much more shelf space being devoted to teas at all of our local markets—large and small, co-op and corporate. I do notice a difference in the brands each carries and find more variety and focus on tisanes at the co-op and Whole Foods.
