Name: MarketSpice Black Tea
Brand: MarketSpice

Type: Black tea, flavored
Form: Loose leaf
Review: This is just the sort of tea review that is likely to get me in trouble with tea purists. Yes, this is a flavored tea. Yes, the flavor is very intense (the tea leaves actually glisten with the flavoring oils). Yes, this tea is more about the flavor than the tea. Yes, this is just the sort of tea that tea snobs hate.
Too bad, I still love it.
A friend sent me a box of this tea: She had grown up drinking it (it’s apparently a staple in the Seattle area) and wanted to see what I thought. She told me that she loved its fragrance so much that sometimes she would make a cup just so she could enjoy its aroma.
I understand this very well.
The tea leaves are actually rather startling to look at: Dark, broken, shiny with flavoring oils, and with bits of dried orange scattered throughout. They smell heavenly, though: Cinnamon dominates along with substantial citrus notes.
The tea infuses to a lovely red/brown color and, as expected, continues to smell heavenly. The liquor is rich, full bodied, and, despite the fact that no sugar has been added to the tea, quite sweet. The tea reminds me (and others) of those cinnamon “red hot” candies (aka cinnamon imperials).
I think that MarketSpice tea is a delicious, comforting brew that helps me to manage sweet cravings nicely. Some folks have told me that they find it too sweet when prepared according to package directions and so prepare it with less leaf.
Recommendation: The ultimate tea for those with a sweet tooth. Great option for folks who don’t like tea or who are perhaps trying to kick a coffee habit. If you don’t like sugar in your tea, you may not care for this, or will need to make it on the weak side. Great iced, too!

Yum! Just read that it is now being called Cinnamon Orange which sounds more descriptive than Market Spice. http://www.bluemoontea.com/market-spice-tea.htm

o.k..I am convinced…obviously not a purist. I love the orange/spice combo in tea.

which is why I even have a …(shhh) recipe for the Russian Tea mix with Tang on my blog.
This sounds yum.

Inkophile and Marye:
Thanks for stopping by and commenting. The tea is really tasty, and I’d love to hear your opinions of it!
I stumbled upon your blog via John Smulo’s stumbleupon account. What a treat!
I grew up in the Pacific Northwest, so I have consumed many, many cups of Market Spice. In fact, years ago I overdid it and burned out on it. Now I don’t care for it that much, but I still love the smell.
I look forward to exploring your blog. I frequent a small tea shop in our valley, called XiuXianTea. http://www.xiuxiantea.com
