Review: I fully admit to being a fan of Indian green teas, and Teatulia’s offering is no exception to this rule. The scent on the rather broken dry leaf is that of austere spice and wood. . .I almost detect a hint of fresh pine, as well.
The tea infuses quickly to a medium green-gold liquor with a nose of wood and perhaps some green bell pepper. On the palate, the tea has an austere, woody, and slightly vegetal character, with none of the sweetness found in Chinese green teas. The finish is slightly astringent with a definate, and refreshing, “cooling” quality.
I should note that I have not detected a lot of depth in this tea: What you taste is what you get. This may be down to the relatively broken/small leaf size, or it just may be the tea itself. It is, however, a very tasty tea, and one worth trying.
(Incidentally, Teatulia’s single-estate teas are grown in a USDA certified organic garden in Northern Bangladesh and Teatulia is committed to ensuring good conditions and fair wages for their workers. Check out their website for more information.)
Recommendation: A fresh, tasty green in convenient pyramid bag form. This Indian green may take a little getting used to for fans of sweeter, more nuanced Chinese greens.
