Name: Rishi Tea Organic Jamaica Red Bush Roobios

Brand: Rishi Tea

Type: Tisane, Rooibos

Form: Loose Leaf

Cost: $14.61 for 2 3.3 ounce tins

Review: POW! That is what drinking this rooibos tisane is like: You are overwhelmed with flavor! While the base of  Rishi’s Organic Jamaica Red Rooibos is indeed rooibos, what you taste is the intense tang of hibiscus and lemongrass, supported by a cast of assorted berries.

This is a very beautiful dry blend that infuses to a deep coral red that is quite lovely to behold. The nose is intense fruit and tang, and the first sip may be a bit of a shock: This stuff is  TART!  The addition of a bit of sweetening (I added a teaspoon of agave nectar) tempered the tartness somewhat, and the more fruity, sweet berry notes emerged. This is an incredibly flavorful and satisfying drink.

Recommendation: Super intense tisane: Experiment with measurements and sweetening to get the flavor you want. Great alternative to fruit juice, and would probably taste great with rum added. Gorgeous color would make for a great punch base, too!

Probably a great tisane for someone who is sick: The intense flavors are sure to penetrate even the most cold-clogged palate.

It should be noted that hibiscus is naturally sweet, but it can be so tart that its sweetness isn’t noticed. Give this tisane a little time before reaching for sweetner.

What a pretty teapot! You can really see the color of the tea that way!
