NarienTeas Silver Needle (review)

Video Tea Review: Check out the video review of this tea above or click here.

Name: Silver Needle

Brand: NarienTeas

Type: White Tea, Silver Needle

Form: Loose leaf

Cost: $15.00 for 2 ounces (quantity discounts available)

Review: The dry leaf is beautiful with its characteristic white down. Dusty/spicy sweet green nose on the dry leaf, which matures to a honeysuckle and butter lettuce nose on the infused liquor. If you only steep for a few minutes, this tea is extremely subtle: Pale gold cup, hints of sweetness in the palate, and a very low astringency.

If you allow to steep longer, particularly on the second infusion, this tea reveals itself to be more substantial. The liquor changes to a darker gold with a bit of green, and honeysuckle and endive notes emerge. Do not, however, consume this tea with food: It needs careful attention, and no competition on the palate, to be truly enjoyed.

Recommendation: A tasty and reasonably priced silver needle for white tea lovers. This tea is probably too subtle for tea newbies. Save it for a special occasion.

Tips: Respect this tea by not using water over 180F. Prepare in a glass pot so that you can see the needles stand on end. Try a cup after a 2 minute infusion and let the rest sit for another 8 minutes and try it then. It is like getting two different teas out of the same pot.
