Whittard of Chelsea's House Blend Darjeeling (review)

by Lainie P on October 12, 2008

Tea Name: Whittard of Chelsea House Blend Darjeeling

Brand: Whittard of Chelsea

Type: Darjeeling

Form: Loose Leaf

Source: Whittard of Chelsea online store

Cost: Roughly $8.00 for 4.41 oz

Review: Darjeeling is sometimes known as the “champagne” of teas for its light, delicate fragrance and taste. Whittard of Chelsea, a British company which has recently opened operations in the United States, produces a particularly lovely blend: Light and fragrant, but also wonderfully satisfying.

The dry leaves are dark to medium brown, and have a slightly pungent, woody fragrance, which doesn’t entirely match the aroma of the finished cup. When brewed, the tea is a lovely golden brown color, very fragrant (the woodiness and pungency is replaced by a slightly sweet, slightly spicy scent), and quite delicious.

Recommendation: While darjeeling is often served in the afternoon, I really like this tea for breakfast. Enjoy it plain or with a bit of milk.
