two leaves and a bud Organic Earl Grey (review)

by Lainie P on October 20, 2008

Tea Name: Two Leaves and a Bud Organic Earl Grey Tea, Tea Bags

Brand: two leaves and a bud

Type: Black tea, Earl Grey (black tea with bergamot oil)

Form: Biodegradable silky pyramid tea bag, individually wrapped

Source: World Market

Cost: $6.99 for a box of 15 tea bags

Review: Uber-fragrant Earl Grey. . .could smell the bergamot even outside the box. The pyramid tea sachets/bags are individually wrapped, which makes them extremely portable.

The tea brews to a lovely toasty-gold liquor with an incredible aroma: Do watch the steep time, though, as steeping too long on the first infusion can result in a too-strong/bitter tea. When properly steeped, however, this tea has a lovely scent, a nice hint of citrus flavor (not too overpowering), and lovely lush body. This is decidedly a “modern” Earl Grey, with the emphasis being on the tea rather than the bergamot oil, but it is still quite delicious.

Recommendation:  two leaves and a bud Organic Earl Grey is  a refined, elegant tea which is likely to please even those purists who don’t care much for flavored teas. This is also a good earl grey to pair with food, particularly breakfast.

(BTW, this stuff goes great with kettle corn.)
