Tea and Iron Absorption

Recently, a co-worker asked me about my weight-loss. I eagerly told her my story of discovering The Ultimate Tea Diet and using tea as a weight-loss tool.  She was very interested, but expressed concern about tea interfering with iron absorption.

This concerned me as well, so I did a bit of research, which proved to be reassuring. Yes, the tannins and phytates in tea can interfere with iron absorption.  However, the problem mainly occurs when tea is consumed with meals and when the primary sources of iron are vegetables.

Vegetarians who are concerned about getting enough iron in their diet have the option of just drinking tea  between meals or consuming foods high in vitamin C with their tea. Another option is to take your tea with lemon.
