Review: In his book, The Ultimate Tea Diet, Mark Ukra encourages people to use flavored teas as a way to satisfy food cravings. Ukra, also known as Dr. Tea, offers several flavored teas known that he calls “cravings teas” which include fruits, spices, botanicals, caramel, and even chocolate!
The Mint Julep Green Tea is a blend of mint and green tea. I am not overly fond of most mint teas: I find that a lot of them have an off taste, and so far, only Numi Moroccan Mint tisane has proven to not have any odd flavors or aftertaste.
Ukra seems to have been able to avoid off flavors in this blend, though: The tea is naturally sweet on its own, though a few drops of stevia works well for those with a sweet tooth. In fact, the tea does live up to its claim of being a “craving” tea: If you crave minty things, you should like this tea very well indeed.
Recommendation: If you are looking for a tea that blends both the health benefits of green tea with the flavor of mint, this is an excellent option.
One word of warning: Neither green tea nor mint tisane do well if they are oversteeped or made with too-hot water. To avoid bitter flavors, watch both your water temperature as well as the length of time that the bag stays in the water. I wouldn’t let a bag of Mint Julep Green Tea steep more than two minutes at the most.

Green tea is my new coffee so I will have to try this. Wonder if it is available in the UK?
Susanna: I know he does mail order, but I’d imagine that the shipping would be rather dear. It is a very tasty tea, though!
